Carrie's Review: This book...so great! I loved the character of Rachel in Living Again and grew to love her more in this book. I enjoyed finding out her back story and commiserated with her struggle to find happiness.
The subject matter of this book becomes apparent fairly early in the story, but it was extremely well written, to the point I could well imagine what Rachel was feeling.
I had mixed feelings about Rachel's Mr. Right Now but loved her Mr. Right.
I highly recommend the book, as well as Living Again. Both are a great read.
Very Emotional story!! Loved it. I recommend this book!
This book contains abuse, sexual situations and some may not be able to handle the books content. But it is an excellent book. I loved it!!
I have never gone thru an abusive relationship but the book Reaching Rachel, by L.L. Collins, tells you what its like. A girl that has had the worst things happen to her and how she overcomes all the bad that has happened to her. Rachel doesnt do relationships and she pushes men out of her life. She doesnt want the hurt she endured from when Devin left that night 5 years ago so she steers clear of emotion filled relationships.
Rachel is in love with Devin Putnam and expected to spend the rest of her life with him until a dirty cop changed her plans. Rachel tries to get over the split between her and Devin by moving away to another town. She quits school and works as a manger at physical rehab facility instead of a therapist herself. Her friends are all married and have their own lives with their children. They try to encourage her to get serious with a man herself and stop pushing them away and having one night stands. Until one night at a club her friends dont frequent, she goes to drink and forget the day he left 5 years ago. She meets Justin. Nice looking man and is all for the "no over nights". Rachel becomes
more involved with Justin and decides to trust him and start a relationship with him.
Justin is a very dominant man and very jealous she soon finds out, on a night out at a club with her friends. Justin dont take well to another man talking to or looking at Rachel. He becomes very possessive and hurts her. She then second guesses the relationship but decides to give him a second chance. Justin has a past! Its not a good past and Rachel finds out too late.
But whenever she hears a motorcycle she always looks for Devin. She thinks of him when she is with Justin when he makes love to her. She just cant forget him. Justin gets hurt at work and decides that Rachel should take care of him, this is his plan to further the relationship. Then while recooperating he takes it upon himself to move in stating he has lost his apartment. Rachel doesnt want this. Shes not ready to take this step into their relationship. She tries to persuade Justin otherwise. This doesnt settle with Justin at all and takes things a step up and becomes her worst nightmare. He becomes very demanding.
Devin has gotten the job he wanted on a swat team. He moves to the town Rachel is living in now. He steps right into the new job with a big case looking for an abusive man who is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, kidnapping, leaving the scene of a crime and attempted murder of a police officer.
This is the first big job Devin gets venturing into his new job and he is going to get the guy. Devin stays focused in his work to forget his past with Rachel and how hurt he was when he left her that day.
Devin finds Rachel, then she reveals why they broke up. Now hes out for revenge on those who hurt Rachel. No matter what he has to do, he will make them pay.
Does Devin still love Rachel? He is about to find out how strong he still loves her and what steps he has to take to prove it to her. Can he let the past go and move forward with a relationship with Rachel? Will Rachel trust him?
I loved the story. The issues in this book are so very real. I loved the story of Rachel and Devin. Her friends Kayley, Emily and Jessica are all important in her life as well she just doesnt want to share her past with any of them.
Would I recommend this book. Hell yh!! I couldnt put it down. The book touches issues all women should never have to deal with. If you cant handle the issues of abuse then this book isnt for you. But it tells a story of a girl who can overcome abuse and love again.
ExcerptRachel lifted her face and pressed a kiss to her favorite arm her spot. “Devin, all of these years, I’ve been trying so hard to replace you, to make my mind forget by filling it with…men. But, every time, Dev. Every single time, I was disappointed. No one can ever be you because you are the only one for me. And to answer your question, yes. I’m more than okay. That wasn’t just sex, Devin. That was you, bringing me back to life. I want to do that over, and over and over again. And next time,” she rolled over to face him, a glint in her eye. “I want it like I know you wanted to do it this time. Hard, fast, and in whatever position you want it. We had some fabulous times together. Let’s do that again.” “I want nothing more than to do it all,” Devin said, his voice low. “But don’t mistake what just happened for me just being gentle on you. I wanted to make love to you, to show you what you mean to me. I can tell you all day long, but I wanted you to feel it; feel me. My heart is beating only for you. My body is yours. I love you, Rachel.” She climbed back on top of him, pressing her body against him. “Devin,” she said, her face even with his. Pressing kisses to his eyes, nose, then lips, her body started shaking. Why was this so hard for her? She knew it like she knew her own name, but saying it was so difficult for her. “I…” She dipped her head down and kissed his ear, running her tongue along it, then his neck. When goose bumps broke out on his body, she grinned against his neck. Going back to his lips, she put her hands against his face and looked at him in the eyes. “I love your eyes,” she whispered. “And your face. God help me, that body is to die for. But Devin?” “Yes.” “What I really love?” Rachel paused, willing her body to stop quivering. “Is you. I always have.” There, that wasn’t so bad. “I have since the night I met you, and I’ve never stopped. All this time, all these years, it’s only been you for me, Dev. I know we have shit to work through. But, I love you. I do. I don’t think there will ever be a moment where I’m not completely and totally in love with you.”
